NEW HSMP Criteria
Under the new HSMP scheme the various qualifying criteria that an applicant can achieve a minimum score of 75 points to qualify is as follows: -
Qualifications
You can claim points for one educational qualification that you hold. This qualification must be equivalent to the recognised standard of British Bachelors, Masters or PhD.
If you are claiming points for your educational qualification you must have the following
A PhD - (50 points)
A Masters Degree (e.g. MA, MSc, MBA) (35 points)
A Degree* (e.g. BA, BSc) (30 points)
Or equivalent vocational or professional qualification, such as ACCA
Past Earnings
You can still earn points from your previous earnings from your work in employment or self-employment
The earnings should be for any 12 month period during the 15 months immediately preceding the date of your application with the exception that your earning will be still counted over 15 months preceding your application if you can demonstrate that after employment you became a full time student and provide evidence to support that you are student from the education establishment.
Example Chinese nationals can achieve the following points from equivalent earnings RMB: -
£5,000+ 5 pts
£5, 600+ 10 pts
£6,300+ 15 pts
£7,200+ 20 pts
£8,100+ 25ptd
£9,100+ 30 pts
£10,000+ 35pts
£11,000+ 40 pts
£12,500+ 45 pts
UK Experience
You can claim five points if you have previous experience of living in the UK if either you have successfully scored points for previous earnings which were earned in the UK, or you have gained a degree level qualification or higher in the UK in the last 5 years.
If claiming for previous employment, evidence supplied for the Previous Earnings will be assessed.
For full-time study required evidence for UK Experience:
You should provide both evidence of your legal study in the UK in the form of the letter from the Home Office giving you permission to study in the UK
An original letter from the institution confirming the details of the study on letter headed paper
If there are exceptional reasons as to why you are unable to submit the Home Office letter giving permission to study in the UK, please state your reasons. You must also provide evidence to support your request for exceptional consideration.
You must also submit a notarised copy of the personal details page of your passport together with a notarised copy of the page in the passport, which has previously been endorsed, with the period of student stay.
Age assessment
You can claim points in this section if you are less than 32 years of age at the time your application is received by the Home Office.
If you are claiming points for your age you must demonstrate the following:
27 years or under: (20 points)
28 or 29 years: (10 points)
30 or 31 years: (5 points)
32 years or above: (No points)
English Language Requirement
Note that all applicants who qualify for at least 75 points must also meet English Language Requirement to qualify under the new HSMP Scheme.
In order to qualify for the HSMP then you must have a minimum standard of English language.
You will need to provide evidence of your English Language ability even if you are a national of a country where the main language is English. This is an absolute requirement and if it is not met then your application will be refused.
