EEA & Swiss national
EEA & Swiss national have a right of residence in the UK under European Community Law and to enter the UK for the purposes of employment, self-sufficient persons, student, and as retired persons.
EEA & Swiss nationals who apply for residence permit are able to exercise their rights under European Community Law to qualify for their family as dependants to join them as either EEA or Non EEA nationals to live and work in the UK up to a period of 5 years, and to qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
Requirement for residence permit
- You are an EEA or Swiss national
- You can support yourself and any dependants without recourse to public funds
- You intend to work for more than three months three months
EEA national of the members of the accession states
Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia
Nationals of new European accession member states are given permission to work in the UK and are able to exercise the same rights of residence as EEA & Swiss nationals in the UK after 12 months of registering under the Workers Registration Scheme provided that registration occurs 1 month of commencing employment in the UK.
After period of registration nationals of new European accession member states will be able to apply for residence permit, apply for their family member dependants to join them as dependants who will qualify for residence permit. |
