Advertising

Under Tier 2 work permit applications the employer is required to advertise the post for a period of 1 month, this must be done in a recognised professional trade journal, broadsheet newspaper or through a reputable recruitment website, which have national coverage.

The purpose of advertising is to ensure that employers first gives suitable resident workers an opportunity to fill in a vacancy before offering it to overseas visa nationals, and can only employ an overseas national should the employer not find a suitable UK/EEA resident worker to fill in the vacancy.

It is important to note that when a work permit is approved, the employee can not begin working immediately, however, the employee is given 6 months from the date the work permit is issued to obtain entry clearance or leave to remain to commence employment.
